Faith Through the Word, Words To Help

Shame is Not Your Name

“Shame” is Not Your Name

God spoke this word to me during a time of worship.

“Shame is not your name! I gave you a new name. You are my child and my delight. You are no longer bound by shame. Do not let it control how you see yourself.

I see you whole, not broken.

I see you beautiful, not flawed and ugly.

Shame is not your name my child. Do not keep calling yourself shameful.

You are my delight, my treasure. I cherish you. I heal you.”

This word is FOR ALL OF US! The enemy uses shame to defeat us and tell us that we don’t deserve God’s love, that we could never be good enough because of what we have done in our past.

That is a lie. God made it possible; His great love makes us whole and forgiven.

This word is powerful!

There’s so much that could be written about shame but the first thing that came to mind was the woman who met Jesus at the well. She had had seven husbands and the man she was with was not her husband. Her reputation was shot. She was looked down on.

Instead of condemnation, Jesus gave her living water as he poured out His great love for her. He gave her grace. Because of that, she brought her whole village back to meet Him.

He healed and restored her, and shame was no more!

That just fills me up!

When the enemy of our souls lies to us, we must remember that we are not the same person we were before we met Jesus.

We must renew our minds with the Living Water, the words of our Lord who loves us beyond comprehension. Let Him change your self-image!

Here is a song by D.J. Butler that I learned a long time ago:

I Will Change Your Name

I will change your name
You shall no longer be called
Wounded, outcast
Lonely or afraid

I will change your name
Your new name shall be
Confidence, joyfulness
Overcoming one
Faithfulness, friend of God
One who seeks my face.
