We Are What?

I’d like to change how you see yourself just a bit.

Those of us who love God with all of our hearts are called to a higher purpose.

But it also makes us part of a very special group of people—God’s  inheritance!

Say what? Yes, that is a “head-scratcher” for sure.

How could we, with all of our shortcomings and willful ways, be something as wonderful and priceless as an “inheritance” to God.

But it’s true!

Let’s take apart Ephesians 1:17-18 just a bit. I just LOVE these verses:

“I pray that God would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.”

Anyone need wisdom today! That’s a resounding “Yes!” He’s the Source of all wisdom, y’all.

“I ask that the eyes of your heart may be opened to the hope of His calling,”

Our only hope is in God, and we can hope about a lot of things, according to His Word, but this one blew my socks off!! What hope is this?

“the riches of His inheritance in God’s people.”

Ok y’all, there are days I feel rather like someone’s gag gift than riches! You? But I choose to believe God’s Word, He has given it to us for a reason. And this verse helps us realize what a treasure we are to Him.

I guess that if I can believe He delights in me so much that He sings over me (for real! Astonishing, right? See Zephaniah 3:17) I can wrap my finite brain around His unconditional, outlandish LOVE and accept that He considers me a “legacy, fortune, gift, birthright, and riches” (definition of “treasure”–thank you dictionary).

So next time someone asks “Who are you?”, just proclaim “I am the inheritance of God!”

Does this blow you away like it does me?

And just in case you think this is a one-off and not really supported by other scriptures, (which even if it is only said once in God’s Word that’s enough, people), He knew we’d be doubters so said it several times.

See Deuteronomy 4:20 and 32:9 (I’m not going to do all your research for you! Look them up!)

Like Paul prayed over those he loved and was writing to: I pray that you would come to realize that His calling has made YOU His rich inheritance. Meditate on that and ask God to write it on the tablets of your heart. It’ll change you.
