Confidence and Strength

I’ve been reading Psalm 139 a lot this week. If you haven’t read it in a while, or not at all, perhaps that should go on your list of things to do. The whole psalm is full of wonderful, life-giving words.

Since I’ve read it several times, imagine my surprise today when God caused a phrase to jump out at me! (He does that a lot!)

“Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength.”

This resonated deeply within me, but for some reason I hadn’t “seen” it before.

God’s Word tells us over and over that He truly knows and understands me—which always blows me away. THE Creator? The Most High God? The Alpha and Omega? See what I mean? That He would even care to know me intimately seems more than we deserve. But He does. Care, I mean. Not only does He care, but He delights in us, just the way He made us.

Because He knows me best–the way He actually designed me to be–He is the one who can teach me about myself. All the gifts and quirks that He called “good”.

He celebrates me, and because of that I’ve learned to celebrate myself.

That not only causes wonder since I never really liked myself until recent years, but also gives me great strength and confidence in who I am!
