Waiting

Waiting. Ugh! I don’t know anyone who likes this word.

And yet, so much of our lives is spent that way.

One of the most visual forms of waiting is during pregnancy. Those of us on the “outside” can see progress toward that wonderful and beautiful day.

However, the brain of the mom is constantly processing, wondering, questioning.

Consider Mary, the mother of Jesus. Can you even imagine? Besides all the questions she had about God’s plan, choosing her, and what Joseph would do, she started the very long waiting process.

Mary was not only anticipating the birth of the promised Messiah of whom she’d heard for all her life, but she was waiting on the miracle of birth happening within her.

I’d like to relate this to us in our periods of waiting.

Are we waiting for God to fulfill a promise He’s given us?

Are we waiting for the birth of something we know is happening inside our hearts and spirits?

Waiting often feels like punishment. But y’all, it’s growth!

This verse just holds my heart when I read it:

Psalm 25:5

“Reveal the life-plans that are pleasing to you.

Escort me along the way; take me by the hand and teach me.

I have wrapped my heart into yours!”

What a delightful image! The Passion Translation has this footnote:

The Hebrew word most commonly translated as wait (I wait upon the Lord) is “qavah”, which also means “to tie together by twisting” or “to entwine” or “to wrap tightly”. This is a beautiful concept of waiting upon God, not as something passive, but entwining our hearts with him and his purposes.

In this period of waiting, I purposely choose to wrap my heart into that of my heavenly Father, who knows all things, and has only good planned for my life.

Blessings.
